Music Shines On Monaco (November 4, 2007)

The 19th Annual World Music Awards were held in spectacular fashion in the beautiful Principality of Monaco last night with a showcase of who's hot in the recording industry present to both perform and receive awards.

Celine Dion and Patti Labelle arrived on the stage to receive their WMA Legend Awards. Celine Dion, wearing a stunning dark saphire evening dress, was presented with the Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution To Music by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, who said "Her contribution to music is as potent as her courageous voice".

Patti Labelle won the Legend Award for Outstanding Contribution to R&B and in her acceptance said "Its not about making money, because I don't need money, but I need to sing".

Mika, wearing a stylish aqua lime sports jacket, won four awards - Best Selling British Artist, Best Selling New Artist, Best Selling Male Entertainer, and Worlds Best Selling Pop Rock Male Artist.

The Quebec rock diva Avril Lavigne looked beautiful in her black evening dress, and won two awards - Best Selling Pop Rock Female Artist and Best Selling Canadian Artist.

Akon won three awards - Best Selling R&B Male Artist, Best Selling African Artist, and Best Selling Internet Artist.

World Music Awards are given to the winning musical artists on the basis of global record sales as calculated by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry. All proceeds from the 2007 World Music Awards will go towards the construction of a WMA Hospital in Darfur.
